It’s been nearly ten years since Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund) invaded peoples’ dreams to exact revenge and murder. His memory has been systematically erased by a town determined to put an end to Freddy once and for all. Potential victims have been drugged to prevent them from dreaming, rendering impotent the master of nightmares. Until, that is, Freddy resurrects Jason Voorhees (Ken Kirzinger), the equally terrifying madman. But as the bodies begin to pile up and Freddy’s fearsome reputation assumes new life, Jason isn’t willing to step aside so easily. With a terrified town in the middle, the two titans of terror enter into a showdown of epic proportions, alternating between the world of dreams and the living world...
After I signed on, I watched all of the movies in the two franchises. I didn't want to be this arrogant director who stepped in and just start changing things without respecting the legacy. I wanted the fans of both Freddy and Jason to be satisfied. That's why I hired the best people--even a slasher movie should have serious talent behind the scene. The cameraman did love stories, dramas, the director of photography worked on Mississippi Burning...If we respect the making of the movie, I guessed the audience would see it, and appreciate it.
We decided to reference back to the first Nightmare on Elm Street, which was really scary. We also brought some humor to it, some kind of relief for the audience. Freddy and Jason are two monsters, such as Frankenstein or King Kong in their time, so there had to be room for some action. These two had to be chopping each other!
